[fic] debrief

think i'm sticking with 'ancyn' for her. i think lol

when you've been out exploring what's left of the world after the collapse, you tend to be cut off from communication and a lot of news. probably good to have a debriefing before returning to civilization in the last city...

“Okay, so what’ve we missed?”

The trip across continents wasn’t long at all, but she wasn’t quite ready to return to The City yet. So, instead, hanging in orbit somewhere above Europe, she kicked back in the pilot’s seat of her drop ship and took in the views.

“A lot more than we realized, apparently,” the sun-shaped Ghost said, “it probably would’ve been beneficial for you to keep up on the news on occasion,” it gives a side-eye to its Lightbearer.

“Probably, but I didn’t, so give me the run-down.”

Her Ghost sighed, settling itself into a nook above the pilot’s seat, “Let’s see…there’s a lot to sift through…. Crota, Taken, Siva Crisis…. Red War, Cayde…” the name is noted sadly, “you know Keeper-13 and Petra were the ones who executed Prince Uldren?”

She looks up, marginally surprised, “No shit? Good for him.”

The Ghost ‘nods’ before going back to its data, “Apparently the moon is ‘haunted’ with ghosts? Specters? Nightmares? Ah. Of course. There’s a Pyramid piece there. I suppose that tracks.”

“Elaborate.”

“On the Nightmares? Or the Pyramid?”

“Nightmares.”

“Um. Let’s see here. There’s a number of reports from Eris–”

“Oh, that’s right, she did make it back, didn’t she?”

“Lost her whole fireteam and her Light, but yeah.”

“Goddamn.”

“But, yes. Nightmares. The Pyramid seems to inflict them upon individuals who interact with it, from what I’m reading. Eris was haunted by visible specters of her fireteam she lost in the Hellmouth. Guardians who entered the Pyramid experienced similar traumatic reminders.” The Ghost hmms, “Maybe we will avoid the Moon for awhile.”

“Good idea.”

In better news! Saint-14 isn’t dead…anymore? Or wasn’t in the first place? Details are…confusing.”

“Vex?”

“Yeah.”

“That’s good news regardless, though.”

“Definitely.”

“There’s Fallen– Eliksni in The City now, as well. House Light, with Mithrax as Kell.”

“Well that’s an interesting development. Though, I guess they’re probably the lesser of the evils out there.”

“From various sources, they seem to be integrating themselves well. Citizens have mixed opinions, as do Guardians, but they’re generally being tolerated as refugees. They’re residing in the Botza District, as well as some assisting in The Tower.”

“Wonder how Saint feels about that…”

“You and me, both.”

“There is also a contingent of Cabal working with the Vanguard. Empress Caiatl, specifically.”

“I thought Ghaul was in charge?”

“Not since he’s been dead. Calus was back in charge and then the whole Cabal Empire had to flee their homeworld due to one of the Hive sisters - Xivu Arath. Seems there is an alliance of sorts currently with her specific faction.”

“Please tell me we’re also not working with the Hive…”

“No. But the Hive do have Lightbearers now.”

A long groan as she rubbed her face, “I’m going back to the wilderness.”
