end of the year faves - books + graphic novels
i read 74 books this year. here's my favorites~

🕮 Shubeik Lubeik
absolutely gorgeous. it's also thick af, but an extremely engaging story. one of those i really feel is worth going into kind of blind! but i loved the worldbuilding that was done between the chapters. A+, would add to my personal collection

🕮 What’s The Furthest Place From Here?, Vol. 1: Getting Lost at the End of the World
this is one of those that is gonna need further volumes to piece plot and worldbuilding together, but i liked the general weirdness of it - dumb teenagers being dumb teenagers

🕮 Ten Days in a Mad-House
really nice graphic novel adaptation of nellie bly's same-titled book about her investigation into a women's asylum in the late 1800's. the linework in the art is beautiful

🕮 It's Lonely at the Centre of the Earth
this was one of those punch-to-the-gut books. really resonated with the humor set next to, y'know, sometimes being a complete fucking mess

🕮 No One Returns From the Enchanted Forest
i got through cycles of reading a lot of middle grade graphic novels until they all kind of blur together b/c they are released much faster than some other age ranges and they often have very formulaic plotlines. this one stood out just for the amount of worldbuilding put in and i really liked the character interactions

🕮 Incredible Doom
early internet bbs's, punk music, diy subculture, teens living on the fringes. i really enjoyed both of these volumes and the kind of bittersweet way everything ends up

🕮 My Aunt Is a Monster
this was one of those middle grade gn's that, yeah, had a kind of formulaic underlying plot, but it was made up for by LOOK AT HOW CUTE HER AUNT IS!!! there's also some spy shenanigans and the like, and i really enjoyed how they worked in the main character's blindness

🕮 The Faint of Heart
i just really enjoyed the ATMOSPHERE happening in the pages for this one - it felt foggy, oppressive, both miserable and hopeful at the same time

🕮 Murder Falcon
another gut punch!!! this was SO heartfelt and also very fun, very sad, and very metal
